Interestingly, insomnia is not its own disorder. It’s often a symptom of another sleep problem like sleep apnea or restless leg syndrome. Things people often do to try to help, like sleeping pills or alcohol, make the problem worse. In fact, many medications’ side effects include insomnia, like anti-depressants, diuretics, thyroid hormones, cholesterol medication, high blood pressure medication, and so on.
Insomnia involves an upset of hormones that control the circadian rhythm of the wake-sleep cycle. Cool fact: a circadian rhythm is any biological process that oscillates every 24 hours. Sleep hormones are controlled by the nervous system. It is why the road to insomnia relief must always include the removal of spinal subluxations.
Subluxation? What’s that?
