Have you ever known someone to suffer from neck pain and stiffness?

Many people turn to pain-relievers. Problem solved! Or is it?

Is neck pain caused by being born with not enough medicine in the body? Of course not! Medicine may temporarily cover the problem, but it does not fix the cause. Without fixing the cause, the pain most always returns.

Since neck pain can make daily life so difficult, people often overdo it with pain medication. This can be dangerous because pain medication can be highly addictive. So what is neck pain? It’s a symptom: the body’s way of alerting us that something is wrong.

Neck pain and stiffness begin with stress. Stress, regardless of type, causes vertebral subluxation. Subluxations keep the spine locked in the wrong position while preventing the nervous system from working properly and symptoms like neck pain can result. Removing subluxations can relief pain without the use of drugs.

Subluxation? What's that?

A subluxation is a condition in which a spinal segment is out of alignment with the adjacent segment. Nerves, which branch off of the spinal cord, no longer properly work. Neck pain results when a subluxation has occurred among the cervical vertebrae. Nerves emerging from the cervical spine become compressed; the muscles become strained. Symptoms such as pain and stiffness can result.

What types of stress lead to the kinds of subluxation that likely cause neck pain and stiffness?

Let’s have a Jeopardy quiz!

Question: Holding a phone like this forces you to bend your head to the side which subluxates the cervicals indeed. Clue: It causes neck pain, shoulder cramping, and a squished ear.

What is between your ear and shoulder? The pressure it places upon the upper cervical spine in turn applies pressure to the brainstem – a serious health situation. Use a headset or Bluetooth. A hobby that subluxates the cervical spine isn’t any fun!

Question: Placing this on the ground in front of your face forces you to look down for an extended time. Clue: If captivated by the story, you may not notice the extent to which your neck is straining.

What is: A book! Read ergonomically! Keep your book eye-level via a reading stand that’s adjustable in height and angle. A student on the go? Opt for a portable stand.

Question: Are you a frequent flyer? Not bringing this on the plan turns an airborne nap into “cervical subluxation hour.” Clue: It saves you the embarrassment of falling asleep onto your neighboring passenger’s shoulder.

What is: A cervical pillow (travel sized). Without support to the neck, the head hangs any which way; cervical pain, subluxation and headaches can result.

Question: Failing to maintain this during exercise leaves the muscles unbalanced. Muscles attach to vertebrae; the spine is left vulnerable to subluxation and pain. Clue: Sit-ups via lifting with the neck.

What is: Proper form. No-nos including tensing the neck, hunching over bike handles, and lifting weight improperly. Exercise near a mirror to stay on track.

These are only a few types of stress that can subluxate the spine, causing your pain. Remove subluxations can relieve pain and strain, without the use of drugs.
